Melk Abbey (German: Stift Melk) was originally a palace, and it shows. Located on the bank of the Danube River between Salzburg and Vienna, Melk Abbey stands crowned by towers and resplendent in a golden hue. The impressive Baroque ensemble at Melk was built in 1702-1736 by architect Jakob Prandtauer. Especially noteworthy is the church with magnificent frescoes by Johann Michael Rottmayr and the library containing countless medieval manuscripts. The monastic community of Melk is over 900 years old and black-robed Benedictine monks still stroll amidst the marble sculptures and frescoed walls. It is now also a prestigious coed monastery school with more than 700 students.

The mandarinfish or mandarin dragonet (Synchiropus splendidus), is a small, brightly colored member of the dragonet family, which is popular in the saltwater aquarium trade. The mandarinfish is native to the Pacific, ranging approximately from the Ryukyu Islands south to Australia. To date, S. splendidus is one of only two vertebrate species known to have blue colouring because of cellular pigment, the other being the closely related psychedelic mandarin (S. picturatus).

The little village of Sainte-Enimie (Lozère, France) at the entrance of the Gorges du Tarn, seen from a picnic area on D986 road. Sainte-Enimie is a commune in the Lozère department in southern France. It was founded in the seventh century by Énimie, who started a convent there after being cured of leprosy in the surrounding waters. It was the site of several monasteries, some of which still remain. Located in the Gorges du Tarn, it is one of les Plus Beaux Villages de France.

A type Ge 4/4 II electric engine rides atop the Wiesener Viaduct, a limestone arch bridge, completed in 1909 by the Rhaetian Railway. The structure is 88 meters (289 ft) high, 204 meters (669 ft) long, and has a main span of 55 meters (180 ft), which places it among the top 50 of the longest masonry arch bridges spans in the world.
